Ongoing Outlook email issues are affecting mobile users once again, but Microsoft has started rolling out a fix to restore normal sync behavior.
Sync jobs quarantined after service change
A recent update triggered unexpected problems for users who access mail through Hybrid Modern Authentication (HMA). According to Microsoft, the system began placing sync jobs in quarantine following routine errors, causing 12-hour delays for incoming and outgoing mail.
Some users reported that mailboxes failed entirely, crashing the Outlook mobile app and cutting access to email and calendar data.
Microsoft responds with a new solution for Outlook
Engineers attempted to reduce the delay interval to one hour, but the change didn’t work. Now, a broader fix has been deployed to stop mail syncs from entering quarantine altogether. The issue is tracked under ID EX1137017 in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
Other Microsoft 365 services are impacted
The Outlook problems are part of a broader series of disruptions across Microsoft’s ecosystem. Teams desktop users have also reported blank screens and app freezes during meetings. This issue appears tied to Intel driver version 32.0.101.69xx and is listed under TM1134507.
For now, Microsoft suggests using the Teams web app as a workaround.
Timeline of recent email service bugs
In the past few months, Exchange and Outlook have seen a string of service failures:
- DNS misconfiguration blocked OTP delivery
- Outlook desktop crashed when opening new drafts
- Current mobile issue delays mailbox sync by 12 hours
Outlook email issues put the spotlight on reliability
These disruptions highlight a growing challenge: keeping cloud-based messaging stable in a hybrid, mobile-heavy world. While fixes are rolling out, the consistency gap is starting to show.
